The holiday season is prime time for fundraisers and craft shows. No craft show would be complete without a bake sale. If you have been tasked to coordinate the bake sale, follow these simple tips to ensure your mouth-watering event is a huge success!

For starters the coordinator will need plenty of help and will need to be an organized person. Treat this small endeavor as you would a business. You'll need an accounting, marketing, operations and human resources department.

You'll need someone to post newspaper ads, flyers and posters. Someone else is needed to help with set up and tear down - whether you have one table or ten you'll need chairs and table coverings. Make your table inviting. Use holiday table coverings, garland or Christmas lighting.

One of the biggest tasks of coordinating a bake sale is coordinating the donations. There needs to be a systematic method to ensure your table isn't chock full of crispie rice treats and very little else. Pass around a sign up sheet to your parents, church members, and band boosters or wherever you will get your bakers.

Then it will be vitally important that you contact each person, twice. Once to inform them how the items need to be packaged. They must be individually wrapped and properly labeled. It's not a bad idea to also list ingredients.

Remind your bakers that the baked goods will be sitting out at room temperature for a number of hours, so not to use any ingredients that need to be refrigerated. If the item doesn't look absolutely delicious, it will likely just sit on the table all afternoon, unsold. Presentation is important.

The donation coordinator will also want to phone everyone again the day prior to when the donations need to be available. People are so busy that reminder calls aren't looked at as a bother but rather a benefit.

Determine who will man the cashier position. Seed the cash box with enough money to be able to make change. Just make certain that after the sale the money gets back to the person or fund who provided the initial seed. Depending on the size and anticipated traffic, you will have to have various people man the table(s). Schedule shift work and ensure you have someone available as a relief for breaks.

It's not terribly difficult; however it is important to note that the coordinator should not try to take on all the responsibilities alone. Delegation and follow-up phone calls are imperative to ensure a successful bake sale.

You may be familiar with health professionals suggesting that you eat snacks throughout the day, and 'snack bars' seem like an obvious choice. But walk into that aisle of the grocery store and you are bombarded with bright colors, health claims, and messages on each and every box. Which ones are better choices and which ones are more like camouflaged candy bars?

One main ingredient to look for in snack items is fiber. It helps fill you up and keep your system moving. Current recommendations suggest that adults need 20 to 35 grams of fiber each day. A product or a food item can be labeled "high fiber" when it contains more than 5g of fiber per serving. And bran, the outer layer of the whole grain, is fiber rich. However, they don't make it easy - just seeing the words "fiber" or "bran" on the food package does not guarantee a well-balanced product.

In addition to a good amount of fiber, you also want a snack bar to have several grams of protein and fat to balance out the carbohydrates from the grains and not to have too many grams of sugar (aim for 10 grams or less).

Quaker makes an easy lesson for us with its "Breakfast Cookies." At least they are not hiding anything with this product - with 220 calories and 19 grams of sugar, this breakfast item surely is just a cookie fortified with a handful of vitamins. You will find that other bars are often little more than vitamin-fortified Rice Krispies Treats.

The new Oats and Chocolate Fiber One Bar touts 35% of the daily value of fiber in huge print on the front of the box. I give this product an honorable mention. With drizzled chocolate on top and chocolate chips inside, this bar is a sweet and tasty treat. The nutritional information is 140 calories and 9 grams of fiber, but it also has 10 grams of sugar and only 2 grams of protein. In addition, these bars contain high fructose corn syrup, as well as hydrogenated coconut oil. On the other hand, I highly recommend Fiber One cereal as a breakfast food or snack (mix with nuts and dried fruit for a fantastic homemade trail mix). One-half cup has only 60 calories and 15 grams of fiber.

All-Bran also has a bar that I will give an honorable mention. It advertises 20% of your daily fiber needs on the package. Each bar has about 130 calories, 5 grams of fiber, only half a gram of saturated fat, and no refined grains. It has moderately high sugar at 11 grams, but at least it comes with a decent dose of fiber. In contrast, Post Raisin Bran Cereal Bars have only 3 grams of fiber and some refined "wheat flakes" mixed in with their whole grains. Even lower on the continuum would be Kellogg's Raisin Bran Crunch bars - they have more white rice than any whole grain, leaving each bar with only one gram of fiber. Why even use bran in the name of that bar?

Kashi is a current favorite brand of mine. They now have hot and cold cereals, granola bars, snack bars, and yes, you heard it here, cookies!, all made with their signature seven-grain blend. A cookie with 3-4 grams of fiber may be a nutritionists dream come true. Their TLC crunchy and chewy granola bars, as well as their GoLean snack bars are great choices for snacks on the run. The granola bars have 4 grams of fiber, 7 grams of protein, and 5-7 grams of sugar. The snack bars have 6 grams of fiber and 9-12 grams of protein. (Numbers vary depending on the flavor). In addition, all of the ingredients are natural - no manufactured sugars or hydrogenated oils.

As you can see, it is all relative. Kashi remains my top choice of brand. However, keep in mind these guidelines when checking food labels: Look for at least 4 or 5 grams of fiber and protein and less than 10 grams of sugar. Read over the ingredient list. Is it nice and short? Can you pronounce all of the words? Going with the old adage that "we are what we eat," it is nice to at least be able to pronounce what we are putting inside our bodies.

Snack on! Without constant sources of energy throughout the day, your mental clarity and mood are sure to suffer. If you don't believe it - ask your coworkers or family. They may hint at a few mood swings, depending on the last time you have eaten that day.

How do you want an idea for a fun activity to do with your children? How about something that your children a sense of satisfaction that you feel like an adult? Cooking is just such activities. There are children, the practice to improve their skills are valuable in the kitchen, they need later in life. The best recipes should be easy to do and to allow some creativity, such as shapes, colors and finishes, and of course the most important "ingredient"should taste! So what are something your children will love to do and eat?

You got it is crispy rice. There are three different approaches that we do in this article, but with some twists. We regularly is crispy rice, chocolate and mixed. You all made of rice crispy treats to let's have some fun with the normal way and discuss the forms. You can use the traditional courts by rice crispy treat mixture into a baking dish and not square or rectangularCut the pieces, but you might as well some more fun. Get some cake pans with different shapes. Want even more unique ideas? Mix cereal taste of rice crispy treats with chocolate mix to create multi-flavor. Just have the kids help stir the mixture after removing it from the heat (or microwaveabove), mix the caramel and press the mixture into the pan of your choice. Your kids love the crispy rice and their creations can bring to school to share with their classmates and also make great teacher gifts. But the fun is just beginning. You can combine all these elements to the "grand finale".

Now we're going to make chocolate rice crispy treats!

I prefer to use a water bath to melt my chocolate, which is a pan in a large skillet. Heat upget water in the pot over medium heat and lower milk chocolate chips or grated chocolate milk in the upper. You can also microwavable microwave by melting of the chips in a small bowl. First, heat the chip mix for 1 minute and 10 seconds and then again at intervals of 10 seconds. The chips do not dissolve in a liquid form by heating the chip only. You need to mix with a metal spoon when they show signs of fusion. Regardless, to treat the mold, dip it in chocolateat least half of treatment and a baking sheet lined with wax or parchment paper. Add some 'chocolate sprinkles or colored sugar or even white!

Your children will love all the different varieties. Let your creativity run free and make sure to take their works of art as gifts to their teachers, friends, grandparents or relatives. Let your "little chefs praise ', and look how good is the taste!
